Mozambique Matters was founded by a group of friends native to Mozambique province of Manica and the city of Chimoio (lat=-19.1298, lon=33.4904; insert on Google the digits only); They all had a shared dream of helping their country and specially the area of Chimoio with Social and Entrepreneurial projects

This is not a Charity organization as most of us would know it or even an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), but rather, a number of individuals that came together to support projects that are aimed at helping entrepreneurial “startups” in different areas as well a number of Social projects in Education and Health.

All of these guys currently live in Europe running their own lives but traveling often into Mozambique and keeping a close contact with the people. They are Lawyers, Doctor’s, and Business entrepreneurs in different and vast areas.

They originally started amongst themselves in helping different projects with people they knew –some from childhood days- or with orphans whose parents were sad victims of AIDS.
Soon they discovered that with their international contacts they began making companies and individuals aware of the Matters and what Matters to Mozambique and interest for this people and country started to happen in a larger scale.

One important point that must be emphasized is that they all are volunteers and therefore all their work and commitment is free of charge, this meaning that Mozambique Matters runs with no costs for the donors and all money donated goes 100% into the selected project to be supported.

On all projects the main donor has the choice to appoint a tutor that can manage and guide/advise the receiver making sure that with they have the best out of the grant.  In entrepreneurial support projects, normally the appointed tutor should understand the business area to best guide the receiver.  Also on the entrepreneurial projects the aim is to lend the money on a pay back term with no interest charged, but this is the only way we guarantee a higher rate of success.

Mozambique Matters seeks to support projects with funds but perhaps more importantly also with people’s time.  Anyone wanting to support a selected projected can do it both by partly funding it and also by spending time on the ground helping in whichever way they think most fit.  There are hotels in Chimoio and there is good quality accommodation belonging to some of the founders which is available (at cost) if some of the Supporters who visit prefer to stay with their family in a more familiar/cozy space.

One more Matter which we consider important is not in fact a Mozambique Matter but a ‘spoiled child/adolescent’ world matter.  In our wealthy part of the world, some of our children are frustrated, sad, depressed or whatever for the most banal and futile of reasons (Dad does not give him a ‘decent’ Mobile phone or car at 17; Somebody elses’s Mum gives her friend top fashion shoes every month and Mum does not…, full of pimples, etc, etc), not knowing how lucky and privileged they really are.  A visit to Africa with hands-on help will normally transform their outlook in life for the better and forever in their lives!  Of course in some way, the same goes for us adults, with the experience of helping people in real need,  every problem in life takes a new perspective.  We become more tolerant, whole, happy, motivated, etc.  SO WE ALL WIN!
